HGH (Somatropin, 191aa)
Evidence profile: Human Phase 3 evidence
Human Growth Hormone (HGH), also known as somatropin, is a 191-amino acid single-chain polypeptide hormone naturally produced by the anterior pituitary gland. Recombinant HGH (rhGH) is bioidentical to endogenous hormone and is widely used in clinical and research settings for growth hormone deficiency and related conditions. HGH regulates growth, metabolism, body composition, and tissue repair. Its effects are mediated both directly through growth hormone receptors and indirectly via stimulation of insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1), which drives many anabolic and regenerative processes.
Mechanism of Action
HGH binds to growth hormone receptors, activating the JAK2-STAT5 signaling pathway, which promotes protein synthesis, lipolysis, and metabolic regulation. It also stimulates hepatic and peripheral production of IGF-1, which mediates cellular growth, proliferation, and tissue regeneration.

Pharmacokinetics
The mean terminal half-life of intravenous GENOTROPIN in normal adults is 0.4 hours, whereas subcutaneously administered GENOTROPIN has a half-life of 3.0 hours in GHD adults. The observed difference is due to slow absorption from the su… The bioavailability of subcutaneously administered somatropin is approximately 80% in both healthy subjects and growth hormone deficient patients. A subcutaneous dose of 5 mg of Omnitrope 5 mg/1.5 ml solution for injection in healthy adu…
